POGOFEST!
Walt Kelly would probably say:
POGO-FEST (noun).
1. A migration of fans of the possum and other swamp screechers each year in
March-tober. These strange people come from all over North Americana and gather
in Waycross, Georgia. There they wander around the Okefenokee Swamp, parade
around town, buy, sell, and trade a bunch of collectibobbles, honor some
cartoonist that has the weekend off, do a lot of eating and slurping, and in
general seem to have a good ole time.
2. An annual celebration in Burnt Corn, Alabama, where contestants see who
can skip a road kill possum the most times across Burnt Pond. According to the
Guinness Book of Records, Abigail Clinton holds the record with 9 skips, made in
1978.
On this page, we're discussing the Waycross, Georgia event (#1).
